A Davis Foundation-sponsored Peace Education project designed by students of Ringling College, Florida, piloted in Chauddhachuli. FALA built a community-driven, interactive and deliberately fluid learning model aimed at the gap between schooling and learning.
The premise was that self-learning in a rural community cannot run unsupported — it needs guidance, mentorship and foundational navigation, plus constant student feedback to keep improving the framework. Two seasons ran, FALA 1.0 and 2.0, including an online masterclass and a folklore project in which village children documented local stories.
The foundation gifted a permanent ‘safe space’ to the programme so that children could continue their own projects, with continuing access to resources and mentorship. FALA was featured in The Telegraph, where Rohini Maiti talks about why she started it.
