A classic rural school with one blackboard and no funds. The foundation adopted Vidyasagar Nursery on the belief that a community-driven, privately co-funded model is the only sustainable answer to the primary education crisis in rural India.
The work covered infrastructure, teacher skill-building and an entirely new curriculum. Local volunteers were developed as teachers, which supplemented household incomes as well as staffing the school. Learning kits in the vernacular were introduced to reduce dependence on textbooks, and a makers’ camp ran alongside the curriculum.
The intent throughout was attitude change as much as outcomes — demonstrating shifts in learning so that parents and the wider community would believe in a holistic methodology.
