Gohona Bori.

Handmade Gohona Bori, shaped by hand into alpana-derived patterns — alpana being the Bengali art of floor drawings — and sun-dried in the Purba Medinipur winter. Made from biuli’r dal, a local variant from the same family as urad, grown in fields here and prized for its texture, and seasoned with food-grade poppy seed.

Authentic ingredients, every batch

Every batch carries a guarantee of 100% authentic ingredients, including food-grade poppy seed.

Poppy seed is a base ingredient in this recipe and is expensive — around INR 2,200 per kg — and we do not substitute it.

How to use

Fry it lightly, just before serving.

There is one way to eat Gohona Bori: fry it lightly, just before it goes to the table. It crisps in seconds and keeps its pattern.
